Double Deep racking is a type of warehouse racking with a large load capacity, capable of storing many goods, products, and materials with sizes and weights from 500kg/shelf level. The racking has a high storage density, allowing it to hold a large volume of goods, and is commonly used in medium and large-scale warehouses and production facilities. VietPos Rack specializes in manufacturing and distributing Double Deep racking nationwide, offering the most competitive prices on the market and guaranteed quality… Call us now at hotline: 0935498384 for quick consultation and quotation.
Double Deep racking is assembled from two rows of Selective Racking back-to-back. This reduces the aisle space for forklifts, increasing warehouse utilization. The racking is designed and manufactured to meet almost all pallet sizes or cargo weights as required, suitable for all common types of forklifts today. The article below will help you understand more about the Double Deep racking layout diagram.
I. General information
– Double Deep racking is similar to selective racking, but pallets are now stored two deep instead of one. Therefore, this type of racking requires specialized pallet handling equipment using either a dedicated forklift or a standard unit with a double-deep handling attachment.
– The most common forklift used for double-deep handling is a reach truck. A significant drawback with reach trucks is that they require a counterbalance to load and unload pallets onto the truck, which can double the capital investment requirements for your pallet handling equipment.
– Another option is an articulated forklift that can work in narrow double-deep aisles while still performing the work of a counterbalance.
II. Advantages of double deep racking
– Increased storage space: Double deep warehouse racks are heavy-duty racks, optimally designed to double the storage area of conventional Selective Racking. Therefore, they are often applied to larger spaces and storage areas.
– Space-saving aisles: Since two back-to-back racks are joined, the aisle space for forklifts is also widened, optimizing the usable area of the warehouse.
– High quality, great durability: This type of rack is designed to hold heavy items, so it is extremely sturdy. Moreover, it is coated with an electrostatic paint layer on the outside, preventing rust and wear during use, even with impacts.
– Flexible: Due to its bolted assembly, the rack is easy to move and adjust the height of the levels to suit storage needs. Furthermore, its high expandability allows it to be used in various environments such as cold storage, dry warehouses, outdoors, etc., creating an optimal storage system.
III. Forklift arrangement suitable for Double Deep racking
1. General information
– Depending on each customer’s investment level, along with advice from the supplier, you can choose suitable forklift types. Below, we will introduce some forklift types suitable for Double Deep racking. Forklifts used for Double Deep racking include: electric forklifts, diesel forklifts. Each type of forklift will have a different aisle arrangement.
– For diesel forklifts, the minimum aisle width should be 4m or more.
– For electric forklifts, the aisle width should be 3m.
2. Hand pallet truck
– It is the simplest and cheapest lifting device. Its operating mechanism is manual lifting or foot pumping. It is divided into 2 types: low-lift hand pallet truck and high-lift hand pallet truck.– Low-lift hand pallet trucks have a maximum lifting height of about 200m, mainly for lifting pallets containing goods weighing from 2.5 tons to 5 tons.
– High-lift hand pallet trucks can lift up to 3.5m, with a lifting capacity from 400kg to 2.5 tons. There are types with a platform and types with forks for lifting pallets.
– High-lift hand pallet trucks are often used to lift and move goods in warehouses or load them onto cars, containers, etc.
– Table lift trucks can be used to lift plants, machine modules, etc. The pallet forks have a shifting range, making it easy to lift pallets of different sizes. However, high-lift hand pallet trucks can only be used with single-sided pallets and do not have crossbars.
3. Electric forklifts
– Electric forklifts include automatic electric forklifts and semi-automatic electric forklifts.
– Fully automatic electric forklifts use electricity for both lifting and moving. The power source can be AC or DC depending on customer needs.
– Electric forklifts have a battery as a counterweight, so they can be used with various types of pallets.
– Semi-automatic forklifts combine both methods: using electricity for lifting and lowering, and manual operation for movement. Semi-automatic forklifts are similar to high-lift forklifts; the forks can be adjusted to fit pallet sizes and cannot be used for double-sided pallets or those with bottom stringers.
– Especially, semi-automatic forklifts with a lifting height of 4.5m or more often have straddle legs, allowing them to be used with double-sided pallets and those with stringers because the straddle legs have a very large area, allowing the pallet to fit inside.
3. Diesel forklift
An engine forklift is a forklift that uses an internal combustion engine to operate. It typically uses fuel, electricity, or gasoline-LPG. The forklift has a very high operating capacity, capable of lifting super heavy loads, with a lifting height of 3m or more.
